New command
The “New” command opens a new OptiFiber file with empty “Views” window, except
the “Material Loss” view. Fiber parameters have default values. OptiFiber creates a
default name for the newly opened file.
This command can be accessed from:
- File menu
- Standard toolbar
Open command
The “Open” command opens an existing OptiFiber file. The “Views” window tabs are
empty, except the “Profile” view and the “Material Loss” view. Fiber parameters have
the last saved values.
This command can be accessed from:

Close command
The “Close” command closes the active OptiFiber file. The program prompts for
saving fiber parameters.
This command can be accessed from:

Save command
The “Save” command saves the active OptiFiber file. The file is saved under the
current name.
This command can be accessed from:
- File Menu
- Standard toolbar
Save As
The “Save As” command saves the active OptiFiber file. The program prompts for a
file name.
This command can be accessed from:
- File Menu
Export Profile command
The “Export Profile” command saves the existing refractive index profile in an ASCII
file. The file is saved in the OptiFiber’s own text format.

Import Profile command
The “Import Profile” command loads a file with a refractive index profile data in
OptiFiber. The file should be in one of the supported formats. Currently two formats
are supported:
- EXFO’s proprietary NR-9200 file format
- OptiFiber’s own text format
However, any ASCII data representing a refractive index profile can easily be
transformed by the user into the OptiFiber’s format (for example using MS Excel) and
imported for modeling.

Print command
The “Print” command prints the active output view.
This command can be accessed from:
- File Menu
- Standard toolbox
Print Preview command
The “Print Preview” command shows the active output view on the screen as it would
appear after print with current print settings.
This command can be accessed from:
- File Menu
Print Setup command
The “Print Setup” command allows to change the default printer, paper, and
orientation.
This command can be accessed from:
- File Menu
Recent Files command
The “Recent Files” command refers to the list files at the bottom of the “File” menu.
By selecting one of the files, the user opens that file.
Exit command
The “Exit” command of the “File” menu stops the OptiFiber program. The program
prompts for saving unsaved files.
