what is back 2 back transmission in optical communication system. some times we transmit data for 20 km fiber and some times we use B2B transmission

      Hi Amit,

Back-to-Back means zero optical fiber length (0 km of fiber) and it is used to study the effect of optical fiber on the performance of the system as compared with no optical fiber (B2B)

      Hi Jaffar Emad Kadum,

I have studied in many research papers that the power penalty due to 20 km optical fiber is approximately ranges from 0.5dB to 1.5 dB.
but theoretically if we calculate the power losses in 20 km fiber is 4 dB (0.2dB/km*20 km) . then how it is possible ???

In many many systems the losses of optical fiber are compensated using optical amplifiers, and the power panelists are caused by dispersion, non linearity and other fiber factors.

Basically you will verify that the signal is being generated correctly and what factors the affect on you will just connect back2back transmitter and receiver
