I intend to make a SDN/GMPLS model in optisystem with matlab interfacing. How will I make a simple optical network and then add a matlab component as an SDN controller.

Hi Burhan,
If you know about the Matlab program to be used and you have doubts about how to cosimulate Matlab with OptiSystem using Matlab component, I suggest first you go through the videos and tutorials available to get to know the format of signals (electrical, optical, binary) created and used in OptiSystem.

Hi Alistu
Thanks for the response. Can u please tell me how to Design an OpenFlow switch in OptiSystem. Can I use a simple binary switch in place of it. If yes, can u please tell me how do I specify the input signal at one of the input ports of the switch as optical signal in matlab as was shown in the video of matlab binary switch. -

Hi Burhan..
Could you please tell me what benefits does an SDN offer other than simplicity of Network reconfiguration?Regards.

Hi Naazira Badar
SDN as the name suggest is defining network in software and when we do that it makes our network flexible as the packet can be routed according to demands and as there is a controlling keeping an eye on the paths that r idle it can make better use of resources and channels and hence lead to better optimization of resources. It has revolutionised the world as it can make the existing networks flexible. I hope it provides the necessary information u require.

Okay Burhan.. Thanks for the reply.
Could it be applied to Computer networks as well?Regards.

Hi Naazira Badar
your welcome
Yes it is actually meant to be for computer networks but if we include it in optical networks it may lead to a revolution of existing optical networks as it will make them programmable and hence flexible which is currently the need.
