Dear damian,

what is the purpose to add the noise for the EDFA using ( VARIABLE ATTENUATOR AND IDEAL EDFA) at the receiver side

      Hi Vignes,

I think the difference between “ideal” and “real” EDFA in this case is ASE (amplified spontaneous emission) noise.

and this noise is increasing when the amplification is increasing due to known relation. That’s why the variable attenuation is used in my opinion.
