Hi Koll, of course this can be used for WDM with 8 channels…it is actually used for systems of 100 channels and more 🙂

    Hi Koll,

Systems that use WDM technique as a multiple access or modulation technique also launch their signal containing all the WDM channels (after being multiplexed on transmission side) into the same fiber. So EDFA and DCF can be used in the same way as they were used before (with regard to the center frequency of the fiber and channels frequencies).

For SMF, EDFA amplifier used to compensate fibre loss and DCF for dispersion compensation.

Can this design used for a WDM 8 channels?

You have set the frequency of the CW laser according to what was discussed. However, you haven’t set the properties of the WDM multiplexer and WDM demultiplexer (bandwidth and channel spacing) according to the same characteristics in the laser array. The channel spacing is 0.1 THZ there, while it is 0.05THz in laser array.

You can simply double-click on the laser and set the laser frequency value in the component properties. You can also use CW laser array instead of using multiple CW lasers for a WDM laser. Both CW laser and CW laser array components can be found in optical sources in transmitters library.

In WDM systems, channel spacing is chosen by designer. It is up to you to decide the spacing between channels by choosing the center frequency of each of the channels and apply it to transmitter lasers. The channel spacing is chosen with respect to the channels bandwidth, so as to avoid overlap.

Your system bit rate is 385Gps and you have chosen the WDM channel bandwidth 192.5 GHz according to the bit rate, while the channel spacing (lasers frequency step) is 100GHz so the channels overlap. You should either change the bit rate and WDM bandwidth, or change channel spacing to avoid the overlap.

    Dear,

I want to generate the bit rate for downstream 10Gbps and upstream 2.5Gbps with two WDM but I can’t compensate the optical fiber system to obtain Q-factor higher than 6 and BER lower than 10^-9. How can I make DCF with two WDM?

I wonder about the layer, it has the bit rate 10Gbps. What is it?
Could you tell me how compensate with the WDM.
    I attached my design below.

    Best regards,

You can find the OptiSystem file relating to the above page in the OptiSystem samples folder. You can go to the WDM systems folder in OptiSystem samples and there you can see COADM 4×4 osd file. (I am using version 13 and I don’t know for which versions the file would be available though).

Hi can I just used EDFA amplifier? Will it be enough to design a 8 DWDM channel with channel speparation of 100 GHZ. Do you have a a diagram example to design such channel?

And how do you decide the transmission band?

    Thank You.

    Hi another question.

If I want to design a 8 DWDM channels(with demultiplexer) from A to B using a SMF.(separation of each channel is 100GHz) What kind of amplification method should I used? Also what kind of transmission band will be suitable?

PS: if you don’t mind can you illustrate with a diagram.

I have designed a matlab code for few nodes with particular routing and wavelength switching but I am not getting any clear idea like how do I relate it with optisystem WDM design.as I have WDM system designed with me. In short how to create nodes or logic for transeferring data from one node to other in optisystem. please do reply as soon as possible. Thank you

    Hi Fayiqa,

OFDM is usually used for more than 10Gbps upstream or downstream bit rate for each user in PONs in papers. I believe you can go with TWDM, as it is the standard scheme for NGPON2 as the following link also states:
