Optiwave Releases OptiOmega: A Next-Generation, GPU-Accelerated 3D-FDTD Solver

OptiOmega, a next-generation 3D-FDTD (Finite-Difference Time-Domain) solver engineered to design and analyze integrated photonic devices.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON, Canada – Optiwave Systems Inc. announces the availability of OptiOmega, a next-generation 3D-FDTD (Finite-Difference Time-Domain) solver engineered to design and analyze integrated photonic devices.

Addressing the challenges of complexity in integrated systems, OptiOmega utilizes Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to deliver simulation speeds over 100x faster than standard CPU-based solvers. This performance allows organizations to design and analyze photonic devices accurately within a short time frame.

Key Capabilities and Features:

GPU Acceleration & Cloud Compatibility: OptiOmega provides a complete vectorial solution at turbo speed. It is capable of running on cloud services like AWS and Azure, allowing users affordable access to fast GPUs and high RAM.

Python-Based Workflow: The entire workflow is based on the Python language, enabling users to automate simulation processes and leverage Python libraries for data analysis.

Advanced Automation: To minimize manual labor, OptiOmega features automated port detection and classification, automatic simulation domain sizing, and an auto-shutoff feature that stops the simulation once fields are well converged.

Integrated Mode Solver: The software comes bundled with a VFD mode solver, designed to compute guided modes for anisotropic, lossy, and inhomogeneous dielectric structures.

Optimization & Precision: Features include Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for device optimization and sub-pixel averaging to reduce stair-casing of permittivity profiles, ensuring accurate results even with coarser mesh settings.

Interoperability: OptiOmega works seamlessly with OptiSPICE and OptiSystem. Users can simulate devices in OptiOmega and import the resulting S-parameters and modal data into these tools to validate performance at the chip and system levels.

With the increasing complexity of integrated systems, accurate and rapid design analysis is critical for organizations to thrive,” said Cem Bonfil, Team Leader of OptiSPICE and OptiOmega at Optiwave. “OptiOmega offers a complete vectorial solution that not only accelerates simulation times but also streamlines user workflow minimizing the time required to generate s-parameters from GDSII mask layouts.

Availability OptiOmega is available now. Users can download 30-day free evaluations and access release notes directly from the website.
