Can you recommend me a very simple PON scheme which is easy to build in OptiSystem 13, Thank you!

Hello Maria
Welcome to optisystem forum,I would like to recommend you to first go through samples given by optiwave optisystem. There are examples of XG PON,NG-PON BPON WDM.You can simply follow the system and try to make your own system.Rest if you simply want to make Passive optical network,Use a optical transmitter and a optical fiber followed by a passive splitter(which decide your user).Receive signal with optical RX and check BER vizulizer. For more information go through forum archives .I am providing you some links hereBroadband Optical System Based on a Passive Optical Network (BPON)

Hello Maria,
A very good answer with useful comments and elaborations is given by Sam Sung. Please, look through it carefully. From myself I would like to add that, in case if you don’t have a lot of experience with PONs, start with the simplest schemes of Broadband PONs (BPONs). The principle of operation of these BPONs is defined and standardized by International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) recommendations of series G.983.

Hi all,
Is the use of dispersion compensating fiber in a passive optical network allowed? In other words, is it common to do in-line dispersion compensation in PONs? I know that DCF is also a passive element, but I want to know a more definite answer.
Thanks for your help.

Yes sure! The passive in PON primarily pertains to how the light is distributed to users of the system. Basically no active switching.

Thank you Damian.
You have mentioned that the word “passive” PRIMARILY concerns the distribution of light. Is there any other basic meaning to that?
I have noticed the use of active elements (not distribution-wise!) such as EDFAs in PONs. So I assume what you have addressed as the primary interpretation of “passive” in PONs is the only interpretation of it. Am I right? Thanks again. -

Yes correct. You can have EDFAs in PONs. Again “passive” here relates to the routing and switching components.

Hi Alistu,
Yes, the dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) is allowed in PONs and was found its application in practice. In addition to that, if you consider a design of a PON with a long reach (PONs with reach up to 50 km are investigated now), the proper dispersion compensation plays an important role for maintaining required characteristics of transmission quality. Please, see the attached below links: http://ijarece.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/IJARECE-VOL-3-ISSUE-1-72-74.pdf

However, it’s known and worth to notice that there will be always a trade-off between residual dispersion and maximum transmission length (which we call “reach”). Therefore, for each particular design we need to consider scenarios that will allow us to avoid such compensation with DCF. Please, see the following attached links according to this statement:

Thank you very much Ravil for your answer and helpful references which I spent several minutes studying and learned from.
However, PONs with up to 80km are also being investigated now. Here is another review on the subject according to this statement: (The paper is open access and therefore there is no copyright issue)

Hello. An error occurs in the simulation of this sample. Can you please do the simulation and share the output here.
Thanks for your help.
