Optiwave software can be used in different industries and applications, including Fiber Optic Communication, Sensing, Pharma/Bio, Military & Satcom, Test & Measurement, Fundamental Research, Solar Panels, Components / Devices, etc..
OptiOmega is a collection of products specialized for photonic integrated circuit simulation. It automates the design flow for
generating compact models from device level simulations. The software package includes two solvers that can be used via
Python scripting: Vector Finite Difference (VFD) Mode Solver and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) Electromagnetic Solvers.

Hi,
The Q value obtained in BER Analyzer block is in dB or linear?
In OptSim Q is in both dB and linear how can i compare Q values obtained from OptiSystem with same corresponding layout in OptSim software.
The calculated Q-factor values in OptiSystem are linear.
Hello Siva rama krishna, Tech Support is right in saying that the Q-values obtained fro the optisystem are linear. If you are interested in taking the Q-values in dB then kindly apply the log units and convert them into dB.
Regards.
Hi Siva Rama Krishna,
As far as the calculated Q-factor values in OptiSystem are concerned, they are linear.. But i really dont know how to compare Q values obtained from OptiSystem with same corresponding layout in OptSim software…

Hi fayiqa ma’m
In physics and engineering the quality factor or Q factor is a dimensionless parameter. The higher the Q, the narrower and ‘sharper’ the peak is. In many design we plot Q-factor and min. BER against input power in dbm.
