How To Setup The Saw-Down Pulse Generator In OptiSystem

Compatibility:

The saw-down pulse generator generates an electrical saw-down pulse. In this video, we will look at the settings of the saw-down pulse generator and observe the effects of changing different parameters.

Using the Component

The saw-down pulse generator and Gaussian pulse generator blocks are almost identical, while the main difference is the shape of the pulses. All of the properties that can be changed in the two blocks are exactly the same. However, in the Gaussian pulse generator, you can change the order of the Gaussian function. The other difference is that when width values are specified in the saw-down pulse generator, you’re specifying the base width. In the Gaussian pulse generator, you specify the full width as a half maximum. That being said, even though pulse generators have width values of 0.3, the Gaussian pulse is actually wider. Because it has a width of 0.3 at half of its maximum amplitude, whereas the saw-down pulse generator has a base width of 0.3. To learn about the rest of the properties of the two generators, refer to the Gaussian pulse generator tutorial.
