      Hi lim,

Power splitter is a component that divides the power of the input signal between its outputs equally. For example, a power splitter with two outputs splits the 6 dB input signal into two 3dB signals that appear at each of its outputs. The output signals are similar to the input, but with less power.

      Hi Lim,
Power splitter is passive device used in PON networks just as WDM-demux in WDM(active) networks. It splits the power onto different ports according to its design, the no. of ports it contains. It may be unidirectional or bidirectional.

      Hi lim jorn
This is the reply of your query as “What is power splitter use for?”
Fiber optic splitters enable a signal on an optical fiber to be distributed among two or more fibers. Since splitters contain no electronics nor require power, they are an integral component and widely used in most fiber optic networks.
Hope your query has been answered.
      Regards.

      Hi Lim jorn

If you wish to understand the theory behind any component in optiwave u can know that by the component help optiwave has provided.

One point i would like to add about the power splitter is that it is used to split the power. Many a times when we use it in PON networks we get confused about its use as a bit rate splitter which is not the case.It is used to split the power equally to all the optical network units.

      Thanks and regards
