Grating Coupler Design based on SOI Technology

Grating couplers are widely used input/output devices that couple light between fiber (or free-space) and sub-micrometer waveguides. This application note demonstrates a grating coupler based on Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. Results for a 3D OptiFDTD simulation of a 16 micron grating coupler on an Si02 substrate are presented.
