In a bidirectional system, the upstream and downstream signals exist at the same time in bidirectional components (such as bidirectional fiber), but it is not possible in OptiSystem due to the way calculations are done. Optical delay component helps by adding a delay, so that the both signals pass through the bidirectional components at the same time.
