Ok. I will read more about Optigrating. I have one more question to you Damian – If I have to taper an optical fiber (plastic optical fiber) and use the tapered region for sensing, can it be performed in OptiFTDT ?

        Thanks

        it is of 7-8 mm.

      • #19576

which software could do that ?

      • #19585

Yes Damian, the tapered fiber is separate, the tapering is done on plastic optical fiber.

Grating is not involved in this. An image of taper is attached below. It may be from 7- 13 mm.

Damian, as you said ” using an Observation area it is you could detect the transmission as a function of wavelength through a fiber”. Where to find the fiber first for modelling.

I worked on photonic crystals simulation in 2-D. For optical fiber, do the linear waveguide has to be used as optical fiber.

If any opti-designer file based on optical fiber is there, please provide me.

        Hi damian,
        Please answer my query soon.

Perhaps you mean the cross-section of fiber

        Sure David,

A fig attached below gives a cross section of PCF. The air-holes are arranged in a hexagonal lattice configuration while input field is given in core (center) of the structure. There are refractive indexes of core and cladding material separately defined. Such as if it is a solid core , then n=1.45 (Si) , the air cladding holes will have n=1.0. Now if we consider the refractive index of whole structure, it is said to be dependent on the input wave’s coverage in cladding area, known as Effective Refractive Index (Neff). Through this term dispersion is calculated for a fiber. I wanted to know the option of calculating this Neff in Optifdtd.

        Thank you

        Hey DCM,

Please see the attached bandgap picture, obtained after running the PWE bandsolver. Now what I have to do.

        Hi Saurav,

I saw the Igor V Sukhoivanov profile, can you specify which paper of him would help in finding Neff.

        Thanks

Is the book name “Photonic Crystals: Physics and Practical Modeling (Springer Series in Optical Sciences)”

        Thanks

        I downloaded that “ebook”

Have you worked on resonators or know someone having idea about this.
